Abstract

Cornual ectopic pregnancy is a rare but potentially fatal form of ectopic pregnancy, characterized by implantation in the uterine horns cephalad and lateral to the uterus, with higher maternal mortality compared to other ectopic locations. The differential diagnosis with other types of ectopic pregnancy where the implantation of the fertilized ovum occurs in the cervical mucosa caudal to the uterus. The aim of this study was to analyze the appropriate clinical management of gynecological and obstetric emergencies in a 24-year-old female patient with cornual ectopic pregnancy at 15.3 weeks of gestation, with rupture of the ectopic pregnancy of cornual location that caused massive hemoperitoneum. Immediate diagnostic and surgical evaluations are presented by exploratory laparotomy which allowed controlling the hemorrhage and preserving the patient's fertility. The importance of early diagnosis and the need for effective management strategies to reduce maternal mortality associated with this pathology prevails.
